Instagram API error 2207003: It takes too long to download the media
| Code | -2 |
|---|---|
| Subcode | 2207003 |
| Message | It takes too long to download the media. |
What it means
Meta's servers started downloading the file from your URL and gave up before it finished. Meta marks it as a timeout and recommends trying again.
Common causes
- A slow or distant origin server, or one that rate-limits unknown clients
- A large video, close to the 300 MB Reels limit, on a slow uplink
- Media generated on the fly by the server instead of served as a file
How to fix it yourself
- Serve the file as a static object from a fast host, not from your application server.
- Keep files inside the spec (a 25 Mbps Reel does not need to be 300 MB).
- Retry. If the container fails, create a new one; containers expire after 24 hours.
How postcache handles it
postcache serves each upload as a static file from its media host, with byte-range support and the right content type, and checks size and bitrate against the platform rules before Instagram fetches anything. That doesn't rule out a timeout on Meta's side, but it removes the usual causes on yours.
